Localization is a field considered distinct from translation, as it is more specific. Cultural elements and language-specific issues need to be taken into account in localization. For example, if accelerator keys (shortcut keys/underlined keys) are used during the localization of a software program, the key underlined should be adapted to an appropriate letter in the target language. While identifying the same letter as a shortcut key in two menus in the target language may not cause a major problem, it can restrict the usability of the software. The difference in decimal separators in Turkish and English can be cited as another example. In the localization of an instruction for font size settings from English to Turkish, if the font size setting is specified according to English usage, the user would receive a message indicating that the function is invalid if the language of their operating system is in Turkish. In other words, the corresponding command would not work. Furthermore, flawed localization of a website may reduce site traffic.
