A telecommunications service called Video Remote Interpretation (VRI) uses a computer, laptop, or tablet’s cameras to provide spoken language interpretation services so that a requestor and their client can engage visually.
Unlike face-to-face interpretation, video remote interpretation allows people to request an interpreter from off-site whenever they need to speak across a language barrier, such in an ASL interpreting session.
The interpreter uses an audio and video feed to join in on the conversation via a computer, tablet or phone. When these parties are geographically apart, VRI provides adaptable virtual meeting choices. The same service can be provided by adding a VRI interpreter to an ongoing video conference.
